Cheaper Concert Tickets Soon   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: concerti

For cheaper concerts, look to the biggest name in ticket dispensing - Ticketmaster. Live Nation, who recently merged with Ticketmaster and organise global concerts and festivals including Reading and Leeds, Latitude, Glastonbury and Wireless, have announced a decrease in the cost of fees meaning ticket prices for major music events are to drop.

How can this be done? Live Nation told BBC's 'Newsbeat' that there are defunct
costs in ticket purchasing and they also want to overhall the booking fee structure by "...looking at advances in technology, print at home, ticketless events - all of these innovations will come about more quickly. Certainly the ticket buying customer will benefit from that"1

As such, a specific date has not been given for the reduction in ticket prices however, fans are delighted at the news. Recently there have been many cancellations of concerts and festivals throughout Europe, frustrations voiced by The Scissor Sisters - read the article athttp://www.rawjam.tv. The cost of ticket prices may be a factor here, which is plagued by a lack of stable sponsorship deals. Events that pull in money from sponsorship deals have the ability to charge lower ticket prices which is necessary as, thanks to the internet, bands need to bring in people to their gigs (you cannot download the experience of watching your favourite artist play live.)

This will ultimately be good news for people who only ever go to see one concert every 3 years or so due to their financial circumstances. To open out live music to a wider audience is definitely a smart move, not only for cost-cutting on part of Live Nation but also for the accessibility factor, opening out the music industry to a larger audience which, ultimately, will benefit the artists.

GORILLAZ Announce 2 London Gigs   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: concerti

The relatively intimate environs of London's famed Roundhouse venue in Camden are set to play host to Gorillaz over two nights in April when the virtual band dips deep into its back catalogue as well as their recently released third album, 'Plastic Beach'.

The gigs are set to feature an all-star cast. In addition to the band's mastermind Damon Albarn, the shows will featured contributions from -- deep breath -- the Clash's Mick Jones and Paul Simonon, De La Soul, Kano, Little Dragon, Mos Def, Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys, Happy Mondays' Shaun Ryder,
Bashy, soul
legend Bobby Womack and the National Orchestra for Arabic Music.

The concerts will be the band's first full performance since they played 'Demon Days Live' at the Manchester Opera House in 2005.

The dates will also include a full production, featuring video animation, artwork and film by Jamie Hewlett alongside music from all three of their albums.

Gorillaz play the Roundhouse on April 29 and 30 and the gigs will be the band's first London dates since 2001. Tickets, priced £45, go on sale this Friday (March 26) at 9am (GMT).

'Plastic Beach' has been well received globally securing number two positions in the UK and US charts as well as hitting the top slot in Australia and Austria.

Lady Gaga Tour Tickets Double In Price   [Report Abuse]

Posted by: concerti

She might be the hottest star of the moment, but Lady Gaga's fans may feel slightly cool about buying tickets for her next set of UK concerts – it has emerged they will cost two to three times as much as those for her current shows, despite being part of the same tour.

Tickets for the triple Brit Award winner's current round of UK arena shows were priced at £27.50 to £35. But the extra dates in May and June, which go on sale next week, will be priced at £50 to £75.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, some fans of the star are crying foul, with some even wondering whether it is a case for trading standards.

Live music fans are used to artists announcing, as she has, that due to "overwhelming" demand extra shows have been added – but it is unusual for the additional concerts to cost so much more.

The ticket price hike was confirmed by Live Nation, which is promoting the forthcoming dates. On Lady Gaga's official website some fans were quick to hit out at the news.

One asked: "Will we be getting a brand new show when the tour comes back to the UK in May? Or will the show be the same, and fans will be expected to pay £75 for a show that only cost them £27 to see months earlier?"

He added: "I will gladly pay the extra if we are promised something extra - however, surely it would be a case for trading standards ... I am a big Gaga fan but the advertised ticket prices on Live Nation have pissed me off - I feel like someone is taking the piss with what we are expected to pay."

Another said: "I was sure the price will go up but this is steep!!!!"

The Paparazzi singer's three higher-priced dates are Birmingham on 28 May, London on 30 May and Manchester on 2 June. She played the same venues in these three cities on her current jaunt.

Earlier this week, the singer told the Daily Star: "It will be a brand new show." Live Nation did not mention the show was getting a makeover when, on Monday, it announced the additional dates; it said they were an "extension of the Monster Ball Tour". And it did not mention the ticket prices.

It is understood that at least some of the current UK dates were promoted by another firm, AEG Live.

In a statement, Live Nation said: "What was a small arena/theatre production is now a massive, first-rate arena production. Ticket prices for the previous dates were set long before the current Monster Ball show was developed. Ticket prices are comparable and fair."

Asked if the new prices could be seen to be exploiting Lady Gaga's fame, the company added: "Any sense of understanding about the economics of our business would answer the exploitation question.

"You can be assured the artist's manager, agents, business manager and lawyer can/would protect against any potential for exploitation – not to mention the suggestion that would actually be contemplated by us is out of line."

When?: 15th December 2009

Where?: The Barbican Centre, London

Following its debut sell-out in 2008, this deliciously dark evening of alternative Yuletide entertainment features a completely new line-up of singers, musicians and other guests performing their own versions of Christmas songs past, present and future - as well as writing their own seasonal offerings.

Richard Hawley has quietly established himself as one of the UK's most significant singer-songwriters. Over a long career as guitarist, songwriter and producer, Hawley found success as a member of Britpop band Longpigs in the 1990s and later played with Pulp, led by his friend Jarvis Cocker. As a solo musician, Hawley has released six studio albums to date. He has also collaborated on numerous projects, from playing with Arctic Monkeys and Elbow, to co-producing and co-writing Tony Christie's 2008 album Made In Sheffield. His sixth studio album, Truelove's Gutter (Mute) was released in September.

Author of a fantastically dark and unsettling eponymous debut album, Polly Scattergood‘s musical backdrops - odd piano loops, discreet guitars, flutters of synth and adeptly deployed electronic percussion – conjure up a curious mixture of the everyday and the fantastic. Listeners will hear Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and even a whisper of Patti Smith.

Definition-resistant British singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt is known for his stylistic and instrumental  versatility.  He has performed with Patti Smith and Marianne Faithful; artists he has opened for over the years include R.E.M., Snow Patrol, Wilco, Beth Orton, Norah Jones, The Magic Numbers and Feist. He has also recorded and performed with cutting-edge French jazz trumpeter Erik Truffaz.

Now signed to London's Fire Records, Colorado-born singer-songwriter Josephine Foster plays guitar, harp, ukulele and piano. Before going solo Foster was half of Born Heller, a duo with free jazz-bassist Jason Ajemian, and played with pop group The Children's Hour. Her often deliberately archaic-sounding compositions have been described as ‘crooked Germanic slightly-delic songs’.

Originally a female Icelandic string quartet, the three-piece Amiina Strings first decided they wanted to write music together in 2004. Collectively able to play a bewildering variety of instruments, they came up with the remarkable debut album Kurr, and offer a unique and utterly refreshing soundworld.

Alasdair Roberts has become a compelling exponent of the traditional song and balladry of the British Isles. Glasgow-based, the first release under his own name, 2001's solo guitar-and-voice album of traditional songs The Crook of My Arm (Secretly Canadian) was described by  Uncut magazine as the ‘folk-rock visionary's stunning treasure’.
